Our Mission

Purple Penguin is a social enterprise using entertainment to engage communities in environmental conservation.

Play It Forward

We believe in using creativity to positively impact our world and all living things. Our goal is to develop art, events, and games that are fun but also meaningful, to tackle the root cause of social issues like climate change.

Our Story

Kevin and Chantal founded Purple Penguin on the belief that technology can be used to make the world a better place. Purple Penguin puts a new spin on fundraising by providing participants with exclusive benefits.

Combining the demand for blockchain games, art, and events with fundraising has the potential to change how people interact with charities.

In loving memory of Kyle and Shawn

Growing up, Kevin met a boy named Kyle Hoult who was diagnosed with leukemia. Kyle had a big heart despite his ongoing battle with cancer.

When he was 6 years old, Kyle began organizing an annual food drive with his family and friends. His mother Lorraine believes the food drive has brought in more than 18,000 kilograms (40,000 pounds) of food and more than $30,000 for the Neighbour to Neighbour Centre over the past 20 years.

Kyle was happiest when he was reading superhero comics and playing with his stuffed platypus, Super Mook. Kyle had big dreams, and his influence on Kevin continues to inspire him today.

Kevin’s father Shawn Lawson also ran an annual charity drive until his sudden passing from cancer in 2015. While his father was in the hospital, this experience reminded Kevin of his friend Kyle and Super Mook.

As the world gets crazier and more uncertain, we cling to the things we know and love. For some of us, that’s our favorite stuffed animal. For others, it might be a superhero. It’s what helps you feel grounded when everything else feels like it’s spinning out of control.

Purple Penguin continues the love that Kyle and Shawn left in Kevin’s heart.

Definition

1. a: wandering about from place to place usually with no means of support b. of an animal: wandering outside its normal geographic range, especially of a bird: found outside its normal geographic range or migration route.

Vagrancy is a phenomenon where an animal appears outside its normal range; these are known as vagrants. There are a number of factors that may cause an animal to become a vagrant. Surviving vagrants may colonize.

Lore

Growing up in the Waddle, life was great for Pebble, Manaaki, and Hau. There were clear blue skies, icy hills to race down, and plenty of fish to share with their family and friends.

As the penguins grew older, their world drastically changed. Summers got hotter and winters came later. Even the fish stopped swimming in the pools that once reflected the rainbow colors of their scales.

The Waddle went out into the ocean to forage for food, even though they were afraid they might run into predators, or worse — fishermen. They were so determined to find food that they were willing to take that risk.

As they foraged further into the unknown, Hau began to feel strange.

Something in the water felt off, but he couldn’t put his beak on it. Day by day more penguins got sick and their feathers turned a smoggy green.

At that moment, Pebble Manaaki, and Hau set out on a journey across our planet. They would cross frozen tundras, tropical rainforests, and arid deserts in search of better food for their family and a place to call home.

They would meet a variety of animals along the way that help them understand how climate change impacts life of all kinds. With each new friendship, the penguins’ faith in themselves grew and they became more confident that they could save their colony.

Their first encounter was with a group that drifted away from the Waddle to become known as the Vagrant Penguins. These penguins lived differently than the rest of the colony. While the Waddle hunted for food, the Vagrants hunted for costumes. While the Waddle slept, the Vagrants danced under the stars in their iglooseum nightclub.

When Pebble, Manaaki, and Hau met the Vagrant Penguins, they discussed their journey and the looming famine that threatened their species. They were welcomed into the clan like birds of a feather with open wings and a celebration that gave them a proper send-off.

As the first golden rays of dawn began to break on the glistening snow, our trio said their farewells and waddled down to the ocean, setting out with a fresh stride in their swim and a new beat in their hearts to guide them.

Further up the glacier, a group of Vagrants sat huddled around a burning fire as their Elders shared a story of an otherworldly relic that lay hidden in their land. The relic held great power, they said.

The Vagrants listened intently as the Elders told them about the ancient beings who once roamed their land. Legend has it, these creatures possessed powerful magic that could be used to augment reality.

Initially, they were skeptical of the existence of magic. But as the Elders continued, the Vagrants began to notice signs of these enigmatic powers all around them. Strange lights appeared in the night sky, inanimate objects moved on their own, and mysterious energy flowed through the land.

Meanwhile, some Vagrants were seaside in search of clothing washed ashore from last festival season. As they splashed further into the waves, the sounds of their own laughter lured them deep into an underwater network of caves that lead to the ruins of an ancient civilization.

Determined to uncover what secrets lie ahead, the curious penguins wiggled their way through a seemingly endless labyrinth of narrow passages, then entered a magnificent chamber.

A sense of awe washed over them as they cautiously stepped inside. The air around them buzzed with unfamiliar energy as they tried to decipher the symbols carved into the walls.

In the center of the room, an icy monolith held a glowing crystal.

Strange energy pulsated through the Vagrants with every heartbeat.

Feeling drawn to the crystal, one of them reached out to touch it. As soon as their flippers made contact, a flash of magic flooded the entire cavern with radiant light. The penguins’ hearts were filled with wonder as they felt themselves floating in the air, looking around in amazement at the dazzling display of colorful lights surrounding them.

The crystal began to tremble and flicker erratically — casting strange shadows across the cavern. Cryptic glyphs on the walls appeared to come to life, illuminated by an ethereal glow. A rumble echoed throughout the chamber, sending shivers down the penguins’ spines.

The Vagrants broke free from the crystal’s trance in a desperate moment of clarity. They scrambled out of the caves, clutching anything they could find as evidence of the alien world that lay beneath them under the ice.

They once believed that the ancient myths were simply folklore and fantasy, but now they suspected that the Elders’ tales might be true. Pouring over the artifacts for hours each day, the Vagrants became obsessed with learning how their ancestors used them.

If their forefathers made the decision to harness the crystal’s energy and use it in their daily lives, they may not have considered what would happen to them when it was all used up.

Worried that this power would destroy everything they loved, the penguins considered destroying the ruins to conceal the crystal from the humans. But humans are relentless beasts that will find a way to exploit anything.

So the Vagrant Penguins began to seek out more radical solutions. They discussed moving far away from the land they call home. Or the possibility of using the crystal’s power to protect their glacier. Some Vagrants, like their migrating relatives, looked to the sky for salvation…

A strange light flickered on the horizon one day. Anxious and excited by the phenomenon, the Vagrants climbed to the top of a cliff to get a better view.

Using a telescope they had discovered on an abandoned houseboat, the penguins peered into the blackness of space.

They stood there frozen as the flash of light grew larger, and it became clear that it wasn’t a star but a doorway leading to another dimension.

Gas and rock formations floated through the wormhole one by one, each more obscure than the last, connecting our planet to the universe.

As new planets entered our orbit, so did their inhabitants — hundreds of thousands of new species that would make our Milky Way galaxy their home. Where darkness once loomed, stars illuminated the night sky, and Earth was no longer the third rock from the sun.

The Vagrants were hopeful they may be able to escape humans entirely to find a home on one of these planets and begin a whole new way of life…

The only restriction on the use of purchased Vagrant Penguins IP is the use of our brand logo or characters in a deceptive or harmful manner.

Since 2011, we’ve been producing concerts and events. Our current events company, The Squigley Duck, is based in Toronto, Canada.

• RCCO Worldex is the global esports racing series for electric experimental prototypes. Worldex uses their esports racing events, Worldex Summit, and Racing For Climate Championship to promote zero-emission mobility and clean energy. The Racing For Climate World Ex Championship is live-streamed on the last Tuesday of every month in The Nemesis metaverse.

Games have become an integral part of our daily lives. They can be found in a variety of formats on our phones, tablets, consoles, and computers, catering to gamers of all ages and interests.

With an estimated 3 billion gamers worldwide, esports is one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. It has recently experienced a meteoric rise and is only expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”.

The United Nations General Assembly (UN-GA) established these goals in 2015, with the goal of achieving them by 2030. Our ecosystem is designed to make the world a better place by contributing to the following goals:

Purple Penguin is working with Treedom to deliver social benefits to international communities by providing food and economic opportunities.

We’ve arranged for a mix of 100 trees to be planted around the world, creating our very own Pebble Woods, where you can track our progress:

These agroforestry projects will support biodiversity, provide work, food & fuel to local communities, and enrich environmental ecosystems. Funding, community building, training, and technical assistance are the key steps in launching each new project with success.

(#6) Clean Water & Sanitation

Ultramarine Ocean Action Summit is an annual summit live-streamed from Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. We will be supporting co-founder Jeremy McKane and Dr. James Porter’s mission to remove cancer-causing WWII munitions & fragments from our waterways.

Jeremy and Jim have been granted permission to remove the discarded munitions in Hawaii where ocean animals and shoreline communities are diagnosed with cancer at a rate of 40% higher than mainlanders.

In addition to fundraising, we will collaborate with Jeremy and Jim to use data from the munitions removal to demonstrate the positive impact created as biodiversity and aquatic health return to the shorelines.

We can restore ocean life and vegetation such as phytoplankton, coral, and seaweed by cleaning munitions fragments. Each of these species captures carbon through photosynthesis and is essential to our planet’s health.

There is also the possibility of cultivating algae to use in a variety of products such as food, fuel, and fertilizer — which would further reduce our carbon footprint.

(#10) Reduced Inequalities

We can help artists all over the world, charity initiatives, and the growth of blockchain adoption by collaborating with educators and industry leaders.

We first met the team behind Exquisite Workers through their DigitalArt4Climate competition. Their project supports over 572 artists (including 331 female illustrators) from 50 countries by offering artist consulting and interconnected artworks they call Exquisite Corpses. • Releasing 1 of 1 artwork with 100% of proceeds supporting our artist Bayu Virgiawan and his family on their rice farm in Indonesia

Team

Co-Founder & CEO: Kevin Lawson

Kevin is an event planner who loves to create spaces that provoke the imagination. Since earning his diploma in Music Business Management from Durham College in 2008, Kevin has worked with many event promoters and hosts events with his own company, The Squigley Duck.

In January 2011, Kevin launched his first company Ajna Productions. His brand grew quickly by hosting events with Grateful Dead-influenced jam bands, funk shows, and sound systems showcasing drum & bass and dubstep.

Following their partnership with the band After Funk, Anja Productions began evolving in 2014. Illumination Presents took events to the next level, bringing countless international headliners to Toronto, Canada.

In 2018, Kevin began expanding his interests into the blockchain, esports, and gaming industries by organizing B2B conferences with The Tech Society. Passionate about building bridges between various fields, these new interests sparked an exploration into extended reality.

Chantal is a writer with a passion for art and social good. She works with entrepreneurs, startups, and brands to craft messages that connect.

Chantal earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and Communication Studies with a concentration in Image Politics and Persuasion from Carleton University. Recently, she completed a certificate in Digital Analytics from George Brown College.

Her experience working as a senior writer at The Home Depot gave her the knowledge of how to write for print, web, and social media. Chantal’s freelance work has been published on San Rafael ’71, Aurora Cannabis, Gage Cannabis, and the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS).

Chantal weaves our values into the voice of Purple Penguin to create content that is conversational and friendly to a globally diverse audience.

Lead Artist: Bayu Virgiawan
Bayu Virgiawan is a self-taught illustrator from Indonesia with a passion for storytelling. He is the sole artist behind the Vagrant Penguins and the lore of their interstellar journey.

Bayu has a remarkable ability to develop characters and scenes that transport you to other worlds. His work is versatile but has a distinct style that he manages to capture in all his characters. His illustrations are detailed yet full of life and adventure. Bayu’s imagination is limitless, which is why he can design something as big as a galaxy or as small as a penguin.

Despite being on the other side of the world, Bayu quickly became a member of the Purple Penguin family due to their shared love of music and comic-style illustration.

“The name of my village is Kiyangkongrejo, it is located in Kutoarjo Regency in Purworejo City. My grandfather and father are farmers, I am the eldest of 4 children.”
